This lovely rag is a Gildan Dri-Blend shirt emblazoned in orange with our wolf head logo on the front, while the back features our bind rune and company motto.
What's a bind rune, you ask? Well, first, let's look at the runes. According to legend, the runes were given to Odin, chief of the Norse gods, when he hung himself on the tree Yggsdrasil in search of knowledge. As such, the runes have held a magical connotation for people through the ages. They also served as an early system of writing for the Germanic and Norse peoples from about the second century until the Romans introduced the Latin alphabet to northern Europe.
Our bind rune combines several runic symbols to form a single statement for the protection of the wearer. Starting in the upper left of the design:
TIWAZ - for sound judgement, victory in battle
ALGIZ - for luck and protection, facing fear
THURISAZ - the will to action, fighting through obstacles to defeat an enemy
URUZ - strength and courage, focused aggression
and these surround the symbol for Gungnir, Odin's spear.
Will this shirt protect you from your enemies? It's a T-shirt, and poly/cotton blends are notoriously bad for use as armor. That said, it's a damn fine design and serves as a reminder of what we do - make our own safe spaces for ourselves and others.
